Rocky Shore Explore

Rocky Shores are teeming with life! Rocky Shore ExploreJoin our marine biologists at the Rocky shores in Burleigh heads to explore this unique environment and learn about living and non-living things in the rock pools. Get introduced to the who is who in this environment of change from periwinkles to sea cucumbers and from oysters to crabs.

Sessions take place every first Sunday of the month at the rocky shores at Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads, during low tide. Check our Facebook announcements or contact us for the exact time of the next session.

Ages: 5 years and over

Cost: $5 per child. Adults free if accompanying a child. Otherwise also $5.

Citizen Science Mangrove Watch Training Session

Get involved in our citizen science project and assist Ocean Connect and Mangrove Watch in collecting information on our local mangrove ecosystems!

Learn the techniques of mangrove identification, health assessments and conservation values. You will directly contribute towards data collection on species diversity, composition and health and be informed about how you can continue to contribute to mangrove conservation. The training day is to introduce you to our research methods and to help you decide if you want to participate in our mangrove watch project.

Mangrove WatchTraining Sessions take place every first Saturday of the month, from 10:00am to 11:00am. The location alternates between Beree Badalla Boardwalk, thrower Dr, in Palm Beach and Coombabah Lakelands Mangrove Boardwalk, Shelter Rd. Check our Facebook announcements or contact us for the location of the next session.

Bring a camera and bird guide if you can!

Ages: 10 to 100 younger children are welcome but may need assistance.

Baby seaside Music, Art and Tales 

Enjoy the beach, have fun with your child.lucas-handtohand-s Create a keepsake of the day, sing along with our seaside songs and live  music, make some music and listen to some interactive ocean stories! A perfect activity for babies and toddlers.

Sessions are held every 1st Saturday of the month with locations alternating between Burleigh Heads and Main Beach. Check our Facebook announcements or contact us for the exact time and location of the next session.

Fish ID and Coastal Habitat Workshop

Do you enjoy snorkeling, fishing or diving on the Gold Coast and always wondered which types of fish you see? Come and join our qualified marine scientists on an interactive and engaging workshop on fish identification. You will be equipped with skills and knowledge to allow you to comfortablyFish identify a range of fish within the gold Coast region. you will also have a greater understanding of the many different coastal habitats and how they influence the fish species you see. 

Dates for 2016: January 5th, March 3rd, May 5th   – at 7:00pm 

Ages: 12 years and over

On-Shore Whale Watching

Join us at Point Danger look out to spot the migrating Humpback whales. whatsonOur in-house marine biologist will tell you about their behavior, diet and migration. Listen to their song and learn about their history on the Gold Coast. This is a great opportunity to spot whales and learn from an industry professional without boarding a boat! A delicious morning tea is included. Bring your binoculars is you have them!
